80% trucks towed by LASTMA bear empty containers – NARTO

Nigerian Association of Road Transport Owners has said that 80 per cent of the trucks towed by the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority are laden with empty containers being returned to the ports.

Reacting to Lagos State Government’s towing of abandoned trucks parked along the port access roads, the Public Relations Officer of NARTO, Abdullah Inuwa, said that most of the trucks towed by LATSMA were not abandoned on the roads but were returning empty containers.

He queried what government was doing about the shipping companies that fail to acquire holding bays for their containers.

“You will agree with me that 80 per cent of the trucks are carrying empty containers of major shipping lines that do not have functional holding bays.

“What happens to the shipping lines for the failure of their responsibility?” he queried.
