NSE ASI sheds 0.51 per cent as investors lose N112.05bn 

The Nigerian Stock Exchange All Share Index on Thursday contracted by 0.51 per cent to close at 41,785.80 points, amid sell-offs on the shares of Dangote Cement Plc, Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, Zenith Bank Plc and UAC of Nigeria PLC.

The sustained bearish activity saw the equities market registered a fourth straight loss for the week.

Similarly, the market capitalisation moderated to N21.86tn as investors lost N112.05bn after the day’s trading session.

While the domestic bourse posted 25 losers as against 22 gainers, the year-to-date gain of the NSE ASI shrank to 3.76 per cent.

Sectoral performance remained bearish for most sub-sector tracked.

The banking, insurance, consumer goods, and industrial indices fell by 0.31 per, 1.11 per cent, 0.13 per cent and 1.19 per cent, respectively.

However, the oil and gas index rebound from yesterday’s loss as the index rose by 0.32 per cent.

Although the total deals traded fell to 4,753 deals, activity in the market was relatively positive as total deals rose by 24.68 per cent to 0.50bn.

In the same vein, the volume of stocks traded rose by 50.29 per cent to N7.9bn.
