APCON partners Oyo on revenue generation

The Advertising Practitioners Council of Nigeria has entered into agreement with the Oyo State Government to boost revenue generation in the state.

The Head of APCON, South West Zone, Mr Fadeyibi Ademola, disclosed this on Wednesday when the council visited the Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Dr Wasiu Olatubosun.

Ademola said that APCON would work with Oyo State Signage and Advertisement Agency to control placement of billboards and generate revenue through payment of dues into government accounts.

He said, “There is need to sanitise the environment to generate revenue. We need to start by identifying who practises advertising and who is legally permitted to practice. The job should be given to the right persons; those that have right skills for it. APCON is set to control advertising in all ramifications.

“You must register with OYSAA, pay necessary permits and fees. The content of your message must be submitted to APCON before it gets to the public. These are the areas we are partnering with the government.”

The APCON zonal head commended Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration on the rehabilitation of Bashorun-Akobo road and the employment of 5,000 teachers, nurses, and environmental officers, among others in the state.

While welcoming the council members, the Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Dr Wasiu Olatunbosun, raised concern about the clustering of billboards along major roads in the state, which he said should be controlled.

According to him, the state government will cooperate with APCON to sanitise the advertising space and improve the state’s revenue.
