ATCON partners NetHost on cybercrimes awareness

The Association of Telecommunications Companies of Nigeria has entered into partnership with NetHost Nigeria Limited, to create awareness and encourage their members to implement the Nigeria Data Protection Regulation.

Speaking at a virtual meeting on Nigeria’s Data Protection Regulation 2019: Benefits and Compliance Process held recently in Lagos, the President of ATCON, Mr. Olusola Teniola, emphasized the need for all stakeholders in Nigeria to work together to eradicate cybercrime in the system.

He said, “As we all know, the regulation aims at protecting and guaranteeing the safety of all users of web from the unscrupulous people, who use their knowledge to defraud people who are genuinely transacting business over different websites (public and private). We must come together to combat and win cybercrimes in the system.

“It should also be emphasized that data is now the new gold and it must be treated accordingly. ATCON embarked on the awareness and implementation of the data protection regulation because of its strategic importance to our members’ businesses and to reduce or prevent cybercrime by ensuring the safety and protection of Nigerians’ digital details on the worldwide web, as the failure to give adequate protection to data could be very devastating and costly to individuals and businesses.”
