Cleanbuild.africa unveils speakers for first climate action forum

Cleanbuild.africa has announced the speakers for the maiden edition of its climate action stakeholder’s forum.

Slated for Friday, October 8, 2021, the virtual programme themed ‘Building Sustainable Climate Action Ecosystem’ will bring together stakeholders to discuss environmental issues critical to the future of Africa, according to a statement made available to Financial Street.

By prioritising solidarity over individuality, the event hopes to unlock a combination of climate actions that will prepare Africa to become resilient and encourage the right kind of policies that will strengthen climate adaptation measures while ensuring the continent’s economic and environmental sustainability.

The following are confirmed speakers for the event.

 

Hiwot Schulte

Schulte is a native Ethiopian raised in Brussels. She is the founder of Haile Hempress House Limited, a project development company that does eco-friendly management of natural resources for sustainable use. Through her work, she highlights environmental awareness on the positive impact of eco-friendly materials in different industries.

She is a board member of the African Women in Agriculture Alliance, the first black women-owned non-profit group focused on empowering women of African descent all over the world.

 

Richard Munang

Dr. Munang is a Kenya-born expert in programming and policy on regional and global issues of climate change policy, environmental management, sustainable development, clean energy, resource efficiency and food security from the lens of accelerated economic growth.

As the United Nations Environment Programme Africa Regional Climate Change Coordinator, he guides United Nations Environmental Prograame’s climate-resilient development strategy and implementation at national and regional levels, ensuring human and continental well-being.

 

Olumide Idowu

Idowu is a Nigerian climate change champion. He is the co-founder of the International Climate Change Development Initiative, Africa, a non-governmental institution that seeks to grow climate-smart generations across Africa, while addressing gaps in development.

He is very passionate about development as he is about climate change and environmental conservation efforts. He holds membership in various local and international organisations.

Currently, he serves as the Youth Focal Point in Nigeria for UNDP Small Grant Programme, Youth Lead Author, Global Environmental Outlook, and Communications Director for African Youth Initiative on Climate Change.

 

Henri Nyakarundi

Nyakarundi is a Rwandan social entrepreneur operating in the green sector. He is the founder of ARED Group Inc., a power-as-a-service startup that is using edge and solar technology to bridge the electricity gap in developing countries.

With over a decade of experience, Nyakarundi is one of the leading voices of entrepreneurship in Africa’s renewable energy, innovation and technology sector.

 

Pretty Tsholofelo Ndlovu

Based in South Africa, Ndlovu is the founder of Slow Textiles South Africa, a recycling company revolutionising the country’s textile industry.

With keen interest in sustainability and circular economy, she aims to empower communities, helping them to understand the need for collaboration between businesses and the environment.

 

Nneka Ukay

Ukay is a Nigerian business innovation and project management professional with over 17 years of varied experience working predominantly with multinational organisations.

She is currently the executive secretary of Innovation Support Network (a.k.a. ISN Hubs), an organisation focused on creating linkages with corporates, development partners, academia and government to catalyse Nigeria’s innovation ecosystem through a community of over 100 innovation and technology hubs across the country.
