COVID-19: Nigeria gets N500m insurance support

Nigeria Insurers Association has handed the Federal Government N500m to support its fight against the coronavirus pandemic in the country.

This was disclosed by the chairman, Mr. Tope Smart, in an interview where he said members of the professional union joined forces to contribute financially to the Federal Government to curb the spread of the contagious pandemic.

NIA had provided life insurance cover for doctors, nurses, pharmacists and others in the front-line in the fight against the pandemic as part of efforts to motivate those working hard to keep the country safe.

“Aside the N11bn insurance cover that we arranged for the front-line workers, we equally came together and donated N500m to the Federal Government this week, as a further support to contain the spread of this pandemic,” Smart said.

Five thousand front-line health workers are going to benefit from the N11bn insurance package by the insurers association that promised to indemnify health workers who would be lost to the fight against  the virus.
