Lagos State Government has sounded a note of warning to retirees in the state, urging them to be wary of pension fraudsters.

Director-General of Lagos State Pension Commission, Mr Babalola Obilana, gave the warning at the presentation of retirement bond certificates to the 84th batch of the Contributory Pension Scheme retirees held in Lagos on Thursday.

“Desist also from unimportant spending and beware of pension fraudsters,” Obilana warned, according to a News Agency of Nigeria report.

He disclosed that in the month of April, the state credited more than N1bn into the retirement savings accounts of 358 retirees.

He further revealed that the funds had been transferred to the retirees’ various Pension Fund Administrators, who confirmed receipt and would begin disbursement in few days.

According to him, the event was organised to celebrate the elder statesmen who laboured in the state’s public service and also to present them their retirement benefit and bond certificates.

The director-general hinted that modalities were being put in place for the implementation of the Health Insurance for pensioners which tentatively kicks off before the end of the year.
