Nigeria seeks partnership with World Bank, IMF on palliatives

Nigeria’s Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, on Tuesday held a virtual meeting with representatives of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund.

In a statement released by the Senior Special Assistant, Media and Publicity to the Vice President, Laolu Akande, the video conference with IMF and World Bank representatives was on how the agencies could collaborate with President Muhammadu Buhari’s forthcoming additional stimulus packages.

Abuja is reportedly concerned with the challenges Nigerians are facing over the continued lockdown and shutdown of businesses as a result of coronavirus disease.

Some areas of major concerns to the government is seeing to the survival of daily income earners, whose daily income sources have been grossly affected by the lockdown, mitigation of job losses, and support of businesses.

The VP heads the Economic Sustainability Committee inaugurated by the president to help develop an economic sustainability plan until 2023.
