PHED to boost power supply with 120,000 meters

The Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company has revealed plan to instal 120,000 smart meters for electricity consumers in Cross River State, to improve power supply.

The Acting Manager, Corporate Communications, Mrs Chioma Aninwe, stated on Saturday that the move was part of an agreement with the Niger Delta Power Holding Company to meet customers’ demands.

The manager also disclosed that PHED would work with the NDPHC to supply 100 megawatts of excess power from Odukpani Power Plant to Calabar metropolis.

According to her, the network optimisation will be carried out in order to rehabilitate the network and increase its capacity to ensure 24 hours’ electricity supply to Calabar.

Her words, “The projects have already begun and one has been completed, which is the construction of one unit of 15MVA at Adiabo in Odukpani Local Council.

“PHED is also to construct a sub-station at Akpabuyo Local Council, all aimed at showing commitment to resolving the community’s electricity issues.

She added that PHED in Calabar had flagged off the awareness campaign on the new development.
