Twitter picks Ghana as African operational HQ

Twitter co-founder and Chief Executive Officer, Jack Dorsey, has announced the organisation’s presence in Africa.

Dorsey made the revelation in a tweet shared on the social media platform,  affirming that Ghana will be playing host to Twitter’s Africa operations.

According to reports, Twitter will be looking to build a team of specialists in collaboration with other teams as they “explore the opportunity to open an office in Ghana in the future.”

Ghana’s president, Nana Akufo-Addo, however confirmed that Twitter’s Africa operations will be headquartered in Ghana, after he also revealed having a virtual meeting with Dorsey on April 7.

According to him, “The choice of Ghana as HQ for Twitter’s Africa operations is excellent news. Government and Ghanaians welcome very much this announcement and the confidence reposed in our country.”

To corroborate the choice of Ghana, Twitter stated, “Ghana’s recent appointment to host The Secretariat of the African Continental Free Trade Area aligns with our overarching goal to establish a presence in the region that will support our efforts to improve and tailor our services across Africa.”
