United States retail giant, Amazon, is set to open its African headquarters in South Africa with a real estate investment of over R4bn.
According to reports, the city of Cape Town has greenlit the R4bn River Club mixed-use development, which will be the new home of Amazon in Africa.
The development design intends to create a 150,000 square metres mixed-use space, divided into commercial and housing uses.
It will also accommodate market-driven and affordable housing opportunities that will include 31,900 square metres to be used for residential purposes.
The project, which will be in phases, is projected to provide 5,239 jobs in the construction phase as well as 19,000 indirect and induced jobs, Financial Street gathered.
Cape Town city officials said Amazon would be the anchor tenant, opening a base of operations on the continent.
This development is coming a week after Twitter announced Ghana as its Africa operations headquarters.
