Danbatta hails Huawei for boosting ICT education in Nigeria

Huawei Technologies Company Nigeria Limited has received commendation for its commitment to boost Information and Communications Technology education in Nigeria.

The company recently donated a computer laboratory to Government Senior Secondary School, Danbatta, Kano State.

Unveiling the project tagged ‘Professor Umar Garba Danbatta Computer Laboratory’, the Executive Vice Chairman, Nigerian Communications Commission, Prof Umar Danbatta, commended Huawei for donating the facility to his alma mater.

In a statement made available to Financial Street on Thursday, Danbatta was quoted as saying that the donation was an important ICT project showing Huawei’s commitment to ICT education in Nigeria.

“The facility will not only bring invaluable benefits to the students and teachers of GSS in Danbatta, but will also impact neighbouring schools,” the NCC boss stated.

It is expected that the schools will utilise the tech facility to prepare their pupils for the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board and other educational purposes, he added.

Danbatta urged the students and others, who desire to acquire further knowledge of ICT, to avail themselves of the ample opportunity provided by the new facility.

He noted Huawei’s partnership effort with the commission towards digitising Nigeria’s economy.

“NCC will continue to be at the forefront of implementing the government’s policies to achieve the goal,” Danbatta added.

According to the Director, Public Relations, Huawei Nigeria, Nihinlola Fafore, the complete computer laboratory donated to the school is equipped with free 4G internet service for 90 days as well as Computer-Based Test training applications for JAMB, installed in the computers for the benefit of the students.

She said, as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility, Huawei would continue to promote digital inclusion, especially through provision of access to technology.

“As a company, Huawei looks forward to making more contributions to Nigeria by supporting the NCC in bridging the digital connectivity divide, training talents, building capacity, knowledge transfer and supporting the process of achieving a fully-digital economy,” she added.

The Chairman of Danbatta Charity Foundation, Nasiru Danguda, commended the NCC for attracting major development projects to the community, thereby opening unprecedented windows of opportunity for the people.

Danguda added, “This is not the first time Huawei is donating this kind of project to Danbatta, as Maimunatu Girls Secondary School is also a previous beneficiary. We, the people of Danbatta, are grateful to Huawei and are proud that we have Prof Danbatta making us proud with his outstanding performance at NCC, which has attracted us to global giants like Huawei.”
