Defy hosts online hackathon March

Baring last minute changes, Defy, home appliances manufacturer, will be hosting the Hack the Normal online hackathon from March 5 to 7, 2021.

The Chief Executive Officer of Defy Appliances, Evren Albaş, stated that the event was aimed at exploring how technology could be leveraged for sustainable living and economic development, in Africa.

“Hackathon participants will have the opportunity to develop new products, services, and business models with commercialisation potential,” he stated.

According to the statement, some of the challenging areas the event will address include financial solutions, sustainable living and healthy living.

He called on the public to be a part of the event.

“We invite people from across multiple disciplines to come together to innovate new solutions to ensure a sustainable life in Africa, stimulate economic growth and improve the state of our world,” he said.

The event will afford participants a chance to refine their ideas with the help of experts and mentors from the fields of business, technology and design, and get trained on problem discovery and solution development to prototyping and storytelling.

“Projects that meet Defy’s impact, applicability and commercialisation criteria will be selected for further development. Not only will those behind the projects gain access to sales opportunities, investment networks, and the ecosystem in general, they will also have the opportunity to participate in acceleration and incubation programmes,” he added.

Applications from both individuals and teams that have ideas or projects which address the hackathon’s challenges will close on February 28, 2021.
