Don’t pay for meters, DisCo tells costumers

The management of Jos Electricity Distribution Company has called on its customers in Bauchi, Benue, Gombe and Plateau states not to pay money to be metered, stressing that “meters are free.”

In a statement signed, at the weekend, by its Head, Corporate Communications, Dr Friday Elijah, the DisCo advised customers to report anybody or staff demanding payment of any sort for the installation of meters to the regional managers or the corporate headquarters of the company in Jos for appropriate action.

He said the customers could report any act of misdemeanour via the following channels: info@jedplc.com (email), Facebook-jedplc, or call 07069403531 or 08111793291.

It also urged customers not to give money to staff, who might be cajoling them to part with their hard-earned money for the purpose of opening new accounts or separation of accounts for them.

His words, “Any staff caught demanding payment, gratification or extorting money from customers would be subjected to serious disciplinary actions.

“On no account should customers’ accounts be closed and new ones opened. Any staff caught closing old accounts and opening new ones for the same customers would be severely disciplined.”

Elijah, who urged customers not to panic, assured them that there were adequate meters for all the customers of the company.

“More than 35,000 meters have been installed for customers in the four states as of Monday, June 14, 2021,” he added, stressing that concerted efforts were being made towards metering customers simultaneously in the aforementioned franchise states.

Elijah, therefore, urged customers to remain in their residences and wait for the meters.
