DPR gets task force to monitor petrol depots

Unhappy with the hoarding of Premium Motor Spirit, the Department of Petroleum Resources has set up a special task force to intensify surveillance and monitoring of all depots.

The Director, DPR, Mr. Sarki Auwalu, stated in Lagos on Wednesday, “From available records, there is product sufficiency in the country. There is no need for such practices by this group of unpatriotic citizens.”

The DPR boss, however, warned depot owners against hoarding of petroleum products in their facilities.

Auwalu said that the warning had become imperative following reports on the unwholesome activities of some depot owners, who create artificial scarcity by hoarding products in some parts of the country.

According to him, the nefarious activities cause untold hardship to Nigerians.

He emphasised that the DPR, as the licence issuer to all oil and gas facilities in Nigeria, including the depots, would not hesitate to sanction any depot found wanting in this regard.
