The global market for personal computers has recorded an increase in the first quarter of 2021, the strongest year-on-year growth in the last two decades.

This was contained in data by Gartner, a global research and advisory firm, Chinese media platform, Xinhua News Agency, reported on Wednesday.

It said the company’s preliminary results showed that worldwide PC shipments totalled 69.9 million units, which represented a 32 per cent year-on-year increase in the quarter under review.

According to the report, Gartner said the growth was the fastest since the company began tracking the PC market in 2000.

It also stated that the Chinese PC market experienced a particularly high growth in the first three months of 2021, with the growth rate reaching 70 per cent.

Global PC giant, Lenovo, remained the top vendor by shipments in Q1 2021, with its global market share reaching 25.1 per cent and shipments totalling 17.55 million units, the report added.
