Investors lose N279bn as NSE closes week in red

The Nigerian stock market closed the week’s trading on a negative note, as the All-Share Index dipped by 1.37 per cent to close at 38,382.39 basis points.

The market capitalisation moderated by N278.58bn (1.37 per cent) to close at N20.08tn.

At the close of Friday’s trading, investors lost N278.58bn, as 23 stocks gained while 11 stocks lost.

The bearish sentiment reduced the year-to-date loss of the ASI to -3.84 per cent.

Guaranty Trust Bank, Eterna, Zenith Bank, NASCON Allied Industries and United Capital topped the gainers table.

While GTB gained N1.20 to close at N31, Eterna and Zenith added N0.50 apiece to close at N5.58 and N22.50 respectively.

NASCON and UCAP also gained N0.40 and N0.35 to close as N14.90 and N5.10.

On the losers table, Lasaco Insurance topped the chart in percentage terms, dropping by 6.92 per cent to close at N1.21 per share, while Dangote Cement shed N7.80 to close at N220.

The trading activity was negative, as total volume and value of stocks traded declined.

The total volume of trade was down by 80.21 per cent to 290.61 million units valued at N 4.01bn in 4,311 deals.
