Marriott International, a multinational company operating in the lodging services, has announced the appointment of two officers to identify new opportunities in its business and to drive the company’s recovery across Africa and the Middle East.

In the statement made available to Financial Street, Sandeep Walia, who was appointed as the new Chief Operating Officer for Middle East will be responsible for the company’s 146 hotels across the Middle East as well as Egypt and Turkey.

While Jerome Bret, the new Chief Development Officer for Europe, Middle East and Africa will drive Mariott’s growth and market position across the regions.

Walia, whose role will commence on July 1, following the retirement of current COO, Guido De Wilde, played a critical role in supporting the hospitality industry during the COVID-19 pandemic.

And Bret’s knowledge of hotel development impacted growth in the Middle East and Africa and for some of the properties in that region.
