Most substandard products in Nigeria come through seaport – SON

The Standard Organisation of Nigeria says 85 per cent of substandard products in the country comes through the seaport.

The Director General of SON, Farouk Salim, revealed this to Financial Street, explaining that the absence of the agency in the seaport is responsible for the importation of substandard products.

On Monday, Salim alongside the Director, Inspectorate/Compliance of the agency, Obiora Manafa, supervised the destruction of fake gas cylinders and tyres worth over N300m at Amuwo Odofin in Lagos.

Meanwhile, the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry has backed SON over the destruction of the fake gas cylinders and tyres.

The Director General of LCCI, Muda Yusuf, told Financial Street, “I think the way forward is for all the people involved to comply with the regulations governing related products. These regulations are very clear, if they had complied there won’t be any need for the destruction.”
