NIPC agrees with #FixPolitics, exonerates Sadiku

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission has exonerated the Executive Secretary/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria Investment Promotion Commission, Ms Yewande Sadiku, of all the allegations against her.

A letter from the ICPC dated December 16, 2021 revealed this, according to a statement on Thursday signed by #FixPolitics Co-Chair, Constitutional, Political and Electoral Reforms, Prof Remi  Sonaiya, and Executive Director, Anthony  Ubani.

NIPC agreed with #FixPolitics’ earlier stands that Ms Sadiku had not case to answer, the group said.

According to #FixPolitics, the letter reads in part, “Upon investigation, none of these allegations was established, and the striking out of suit No FAC/ABJ/CS/249/2019 by His Lordship, Hon Justice Ahmed Mohammed of the Federal High Court of Nigeria, Abuja Division, brings the investigation to a close.”

#FixPolitics had, in August 2021, issued a statement condemning the continued harassment of Ms Sadiku by the Nigerian anti-corruption agencies. It quoted a portion of the statement to have read, “#FixPolitics condemns any government, which appoints into public office individuals with a track record of competence and integrity, but is reluctant to support and protect such individuals when they face challenges in implementing reform.

“It is on this score that we call on the Federal Government to act immediately to provide protection from harassment to Ms Sadiku and, more generally, to ensure that technocrats, who are appointed into office and are providing ethical and competent leadership in their organisations, are not subjected to public ridicule and the tarnishing of their personal reputation, which has far-reaching and global consequences.”

The group also pointed out that none of the government agencies had been able to prove that the NIPC boss had any case to answer.

“Indeed, we had noted the advancement that the NIPC experienced under Sadiku’s able leadership and the recognition she received based on her proven integrity.

“Now that she has, once again, been vindicated, #FixPolitics calls on the government to issue a strong statement of commendation from a grateful nation for her leadership, courage and integrity in the service of the nation.

“Unless and until government decides to execute a deliberate policy to protect and promote patriotic, competent and honest public leaders against systemic blackmail, Nigeria will continue to lose the services of men and women of character, competence and capacity in the public service,” the group said.

#FixPolitics added that it would continue to stand boldly with leaders, who demonstrate character, competence and capacity in public service.
