NSE honours Champion Breweries with digital closing gong

The Nigerian Stock Exchange, over the weekend, honoured the new Managing Director of Champion Breweries Plc, Mr. Georgios Polymenakos, by having him perform the digital closing gong of the market.

The closing gong ceremony is organised to support and recognise milestones and accomplishments of listed companies.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Chief Executive Officer of Nigeria Stock Exchange, Oscar Onyema, said as part of the Exchange’s business continuity plan, the digital closing gong was launched on Instagram in April this year and had since then hosted several webinars, virtual events and interactive sessions.

According to him, the Exchange is committed to providing issuers the platform to achieve their business and strategic objectives.

“The closing gong ceremony is organised to support and recognise milestones and accomplishments of listed companies and allow newly-appointed boards and chief executive officers of listed companies to be introduced to the Nigerian capital market ecosystem,” Onyema sid.

He congratulated Polymenakos and assured him of NSE’s commitment to offer issuers opportunities to derive great value from their interaction with the market, assuring the leadership of Champion Breweries that the NSE would remain a trusted business partner in achieving their strategic business objectives.

Commending the leadership of NSE for the opportunity, Polymenakos said he was deeply honoured to participate at the event.

He described himself as a passionate advocate of the Nigerian economy and the future of Nigeria, adding that Champion would soon be 50 years old with its ups and downs. One of the company’s glorious events, he noted, was the listing on the NSE in 1993.

Polymenakos said despite the ups and downs, the company had remained steadfast in producing top quality product that could be compared with any company or brand all over the world at affordable prices.

He said it was the quality of the products the company offered that earned it the most preferred brand by the consumers in the areas they operate.

The company’s beer brand has, during the last two years, grown with over 150 per cent, which led the company to profitability in 2019 and the momentum continued in the first quarter of this year.
