Security operatives impound bags of cocaine at TinCan

Terminal Security Operatives at TinCan Island Port, Lagos State, have discovered two bags of substances suspected to be cocaine at the Josepdam terminal.

The Public Relations Officer of TinCan Island Command of the Nigeria Customs Service, Uche Ejesieme, said on Tuesday that the bags were discovered on board a vessel named, MV SPAR SCORPIO at the terminal.

He added that the substances were discovered in the hopper used to discharge sugar from the vessel.

“During routine discharge of bulk sugar about 11.03hrs on Monday February 8, 2021 at the Josepdam Terminal, the operators noticed two bags of substances in the hopper that is used to discharge sugar from the vessel into waiting trucks in the terminal.

“The bags were recovered by the terminal security operatives who invited the PSO to the port manager to report the developments without recourse to the Customs,” he said.

Ejesieme added that the substances had been handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency.

“We understand that the substances have been handed over to the NDLEA. In this circumstance, it is only the NDLEA that can give further details on this issue,” he added.
