Usman suspended as MD of NPA

Ms Hadiza Usman has been suspended as the Managing Director of Nigeria Ports Authority, according to a Ministry of Transport source.

Announcing her suspension on Thursday, President Muhammadu Buhari appointed Mohammed Koko to take over in acting capacity.

Reason for her suspension was not known at press time, but Financial Street gathered that it was recommended by the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi.

Koko was the Executive Director, Finance and Administration, at NPA.

The Corporate Communications Department of NPA could not immediately confirm the development.

Usman, the first female MD of NPA, was first appointed on July 11, 2016, and reappointed last January for another five years tenure in office.

She is co-founder of the #BringBackOurGirls campaign, and member of the All Progressives Congress. She was also Chief of Staff to the Governor of Kaduna State from 2015 to 2016.

However, Usman reportedly said she was aware of her suspension, adding that she had not received any formal letter or communication to that effect from the Ministry of Transport.
