Why we shut 103 filling stations, 13 gas plants – DPR

The Zonal Operations Controller of the Department of Petroleum Resources, Mr Ayorinde Cardoso, has explained the sealing of 103 filling stations and 13 gas plants in Lagos State on Tuesday.

Cardoso said the filling stations were sealed after the DPR task force after surveillance on Monday revealed that they were operating without valid licence.

His words, ”This is a continuous exercise by the DPR to improve safety in selling and distribution of Liquefied Petroleum Gas in Lagos State.

“The task force visited 216 facilities and observed that 103 petroleum products retail outlet lacked the prerequisite approval and were subsequently shut down.”
He also disclosed that the cooking gas plants were shut for non-compliance with DPR guidelines and international safety standards.

Some of the sealed plants were operating in unapproved locations, he added, stressing that the move was aimed at reducing the occurrence of gas explosion and fire incidents in Lagos.
