Investors gain N258.43bn on NGX

Investors on the floor of the Nigerian Exchange Limited gained N258.43bn as trading activities were positive all through the week.

The market capitalisation, which opened on Monday, April 19, 2021, at N20.310tn, traded up to N20.568tn to close the week”s trading session on Friday, April 23, 2021.

Friday’s trading activity saw the All-Share Index rise by 0.43 per cent to close at 39,301.82 points.

Amid sustained bargaining, 32 stocks recorded gains against nine stocks that declined, even as the year-to-date loss of the ASI moderated to -2.40 per cent.

Sentiment was positive in the market, as share prices of Stanbic IBTC Holdings, Nigerian Breweries, Dangote Sugar Refinery, Lafarge Africa and Zenith Bank stocks advanced by 8.70 per cent, 2.20 per cent, 5.29 per cent, 1.83 per cent and 1.36 per cent respectively.

Of the five indices tracked, four closed in positive territory save oil and gas index which closed flat.

The banking, insurance, consumer goods and industrial indices rose by 0.51 per cent, 0.57 per cent, 0.94 per cent and 0.11 per cent respectively.

Trading activity picked up as total deals, volume and value of stocks traded rose.

At the close of Friday’s trading, total volume of stocks rose by 56.36 per cent to 278.72 million units, valued at N2.92bn in 3,489 deals.
